Agrastim Organic Agriculture

Consumer demand for organically produced goods has shown double-digit growth for well over a decade, providing market incentives for U.S. farmers across a broad range of products. Organic products are now available in over 20,000 natural food stores and nearly 4 out of 5 conventional grocery stores.  According to recent industry statistics, organic sales account for 3% of total U.S. food sales.

The March 2008 issue of Equities Magazine reports that U.S. sales of organic food products have averaged nearly 20% annual growth over the last 10 years, with price premiums "up to 40% higher than their conventional counterparts".   U.S. organic products sales exceeded $18 billion in 2007.

Organic beef sales grew about 13.5 percent in 2006, though overall U.S. beef sales grew only 3 percent in 2006.  Organic milk sales have increased nearly 15% per year since 2004.  In 2006, sales of organic dairy products (including yogurt) showed gains of 27%.
